Subject
Control design for adaptive facades
My research within the Collaborative Research Centre 1244 addresses innovative solutions to increase the resilience of buildings. As part of the Civil Systems Engineering group, my work focuses on modeling, control and optimal operation of adaptive facades developed within interdisciplinary teams.
Primarily the following systems are considered:
- CoolSKIN: Solar-based adsorption facade system for indoor cooling
- HydroSKIN: Building envelope for rainwater collection and evaporative cooling
The behavior is mathematically represented using hybrid or distributed parameter system models. Based on these simulation models, operating strategies as well as subordinate controllers are designed and tested on prototypes of the facade elements.
